AS PART of our ongoing commitment to being at the heart of community, we are launching an initiative that helps give low-income families access to uniforms at a low price.
The Uniform Exchange is a pop-up shop based in Spencer Market launching on Wednesday 7th August and will be open Wednesday to Friday on a weekly basis until Friday 30th August.
Aiming to support low-income families with children between 3-16 years, The Uniform Exchange will offer uniform basics from 50p up to £2 from a selection of donated high-quality pre-owned or new clothing.
Every single penny raised will be donated to Teesside Philanthropic Foundation’s Hardship School’s Fund.
Karen Eve, Regional Centre Manager for Knight Frank, commented: “As a leading Teesside business, we feel a responsibility to lead the way in Stockton-on-Tees to tackle uniform inequality. We want to encourage our customers to visit Castlegate and donate old uniforms so that others can re-use them.
“As well as providing affordable school uniforms, we want to address a throw-away culture and encourage the public to get on board to reuse, reduce and recycle unwanted quality uniforms.”
Liz Wright, Neighbourhoods Service Manager for Thirteen in Stockton, said: “We’re pleased to support this project as we know how difficult it can be for Thirteen’s customers and other residents to afford school uniforms these days.
“We don’t just provide homes for people but we also want to support customers with their money issues, so hopefully reducing the cost of school clothing through this project will really help.”
Donations of high-quality pre-owned or new uniform can be dropped off at shops in Castlegate or collected if local. Contact Chantal Taylor on 01642 672783 to get involved.
