TO MARK Purple Tuesday we invited local performing arts group Northern Stars to Castlegate Shopping Centre
The group, who work with adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities showcased their Musical Extravaganza with songs from Joseph, Chicago and many more.
Supporting disabled people and their families, Purple Tuesday calls on businesses to make changes to improve their customer experience.
Around 1 in 5 people have a disability and of those people, 80% have a hidden disability, whether this be dyslexia, a mental health condition or a learning difficulty. This means that on average 20% of shoppers are likely to have a disability and many will need additional customer care.
With over 4000 participating organisations, each business makes a pledge to change or improve the customer experience for disabled people. This includes commitments such as customer service training, recognising hidden disabilities and learning British Sign Language.
Chantal Taylor, Marketing Manager at Castlegate, said: “It was amazing having Northern Stars at Castlegate, all our customers loved the energy the very talented group brought to the centre and we look forward to working with them again soon.”
