THIS WEEK marks national pretzel day and to celebrate the humble knotted snack we are looking at three delicious recipes that really get our mouths watering…

Popcorn Squares
Combine sweet and salty flavours with this chewy snack. Simply melt down 300g of marshmallows in a pan, stirring continuously. Then add 140g of popcorn and 200g of roughly chopped pretzals. Pour into a parchment-lined baking tray and chill to set. To serve, cut into squares and gobble them all down!

Crispy Pretzel Chicken
Making a super-crisp coating, these quirky chicken nuggs will soon become a firm favourite. Start by crushing pretzels in a food processor then toss chicken thighs in flour, dip into an egg and roll it in the pretzel crumbs. Place on a baking tray, drizzle over olive oil and bake for 35 mins on 200C until crisp and tender.

Pretzel Cookie Bars
Beat butter and sugar until creamy then add eggs and flour until a dough is formed. Finish off by adding milk and chocolate chunks. Spoon half the mixture into a tin then dollop in peanut butter and top with the remining dough. Arrange pretzels on top and bake for 50 minutes. Once cool, drizzle with chocolate and sprinkle with sea salt.
